  • Maybe not in Germany, but we specialise in thick people in the U.K.

  • Maybe the Queen will lead an army of subjects against Parliament? It's happened before and that ended well.

  • Thick and sexist apply then "a whore" tsss.

People are mixed thick and smart, I've met educated people with the IQ of a head of lettuce when it comes to swallowing political nonsense.

Brexit is just the thing to exploit our old tribal mechanism, our leaders take care of us etc...

Top it up with a lack of faith in democracy, identity politics and genuine lack of politicians serving the people and voila.

Let pen, wilders, brexit don't forget it's the "other tribes" keep people scared, don't offer genuine (but slow solutions) etc.

But there are smart hard brexit voters too, my ire is reserved for them ATM. They really should know better.

  • That's a fair comment. His opening paragraph repeats what he was told (or at least led to believe), and so it's not unreasonable that he should reproduce those statements. Of course, the real problem, and so where the fault lies, is that what he was told was not true (i.e. alternative facts). That said, he has to take some of the blame for being too lazy to work it all out for himself. But most people don't bother.

  • one of the reasons all politicians are so keen on restricting education, closing libraries, removing arts funding etc...

    FTFY
Lets not pretend it's just the right that do this. It was Labour who abolished the assisted places scheme, student grants and introduced university fees, all policies designed to keep the poor uneducated.

  • There's a lot of smug hatred directed at "thick people" in this thread with this phrase seeming to describe some lumpen mass of unevolved, irredeemable troglodytes with very few here recognising that there is a link between poor reasoning and lack of education. Hence people aren't necessarily born inferior (as many here seem to regard the masses) as compared to the many condescendingly superior, well educated, morally sound persons populating this forum.

Vast swathes of the country have been left to rot economically, socially, thus also in terms of lack of investment in education and the infrastructure to support those who want to teach themselves.

  • the presumption that you can only make sound, equitable decisions having been bathed in the light of scholastic endeavour is equally patronising.

  • New Labour.

That was after a huge step to the right and adopting neo-liberal-lite policies. (I did think 'et al.' would have covered this....)

  • Same regiment as my dad. Same views probably too.

  • I don't think anyone's suggesting that to be the case.

We all know that intelligence and education can come in many forms, but there is a definite advantage politically and economically to parties by making sure that a lot of people don't get an education and removing resources from those that might want to do it themselves.

  • Being uneducated doesn't mean you have to be a horrible shit.

  • of course. but fighting lazy stereotyping with lazy stereotyping isn't going to help anyone. christ knows i'm guilty of it myself.

  • Poor Gina. One of the few competent grown-ups around - routinely making mincemeat of politicians of all persuasions - and this is how she gets treated :(

  • Those sort of forums always remind me of the above..

  • gina miller just starting interview on r.4 now
they are going to dig into her background a bit

  • More on Labour's problems re: Brexit not being strictly Corbyn: http://uk.businessinsider.com/khan-dismisses-corbyn-claim-ministers-erode-workers-rights-brexit-2017-1

The one thing I would hope everyone could agree Corbyn was doing right with his Brexit strategy (banging on about the threat the Tories pose to worker's rights) is undermined by the second (probably first, really) most powerful person in Labour.

I don't get why he said this. Even if the Tories had no plans to lower the bar when it comes to worker's rights (which I don't believe for a second), what does undermining the parties position that they should not be lowered achieve? Why should Labour be giving "credit" to the Tories for something they haven't yet done?

  • Maybe not in Germany, but we specialise in thick people in the U.K.

According to this the average IQ in Germany is actually a point lower than in the U.K.
    https://iq-research.info/en/page/average-iq-by-country

IQ is just one measure of intelligence though, obviously.

  • Presumably that's since Ollie moved to London?

  • I voted for Brexit and think Gina Miller should be applauded for standing up for what she believes in. Brexit should face all the criticism and opposition it deserves. Good for her.

I wish we could stop generalising on people based on their political views and opinions. Those FB comments are deplorable tho, people like to show off on FB.

Would also be ok if someone were to give Piers Morgan a pimpslap

  • This kind of view is part of the problem. Yes some people are 'thick', where the roots and blame for that lie is another point entirely.

  • Out of interest, what do you think of this leave EU and EEC brexit lark?

I am not a happy bunny, but I live in NI we don't have finance services to survive the issues leaving the EEC causes, and a return to border policing/passport checks can potential endanger the peace here.

So far I've seen broken promises and a mess, did you see any of this coming, or did you want to go with the EEC option and feel a little pissed off too?

  • You're about to enter a discussion with a massive troll

  • As some who grew up in NI I too am interested to hear the response from a person who voted in favour of bringing back the type of physical demarcation that saw numerous random, armed road-blocks and army watchtowers that were part and parcel of our family holidays to the Republic.

Was getting 8 year olds desensitised to having their parents' actions questioned by soliders when all they were doing was driving you home from school part of what swayed you? I grew up protestant too, I had it easy.

Is that what they want? Cos that's what'll 'appen.

  • Before we jump at anyone's throat, let's not assume motives.

    PLEASE
    With sugar on top.

    :)

I have spoken enough to the work brexiter to know he's infested with nationalism, but that doesn't mean we don't see eye to eye on everything. He was complaining a lot of IT companies are very sexist for example, something I would agree with and it's not something that fits his demographic stereotype.

  • I think it's time for the Dutch independence party, get this place back to its rightful roots.

Bicycles, joints, secularism, proper water management... fuck caravans though, I hate caravans.
