Trek are lovely, but they are sort of sticking to what they know despite producing some excellent bike (such as the trek 920 that is alarmingly light and so much fun to ride).
Cannondale are similar with sticking to what they know, they did make the Slate being the most fun bike ever to ride on road and off.

Can honestly say, out of the big boys, Spesh n Giant are the only ones I'd consider. Never been a fan of Trek or Cannondale.
