  • Does a wide 20H NMSW rim exist? Ive got some macks staring at me and don't know what to build them up with. Can no longer afford chinacarbon after latest frame purchase

  • the Flo 30 rim has black side walls but again ...probably not that cheap

    http://www.flocycling.com/wheels_flo_30_rim.php

or maybe mr @cycleclinic can get kinlin XR31/XR22 disc in 20 hole versions...

  • Velox is fine unless you MTB and get rims soaked in streams on a regular basis...Cloth tape doesn't like being soaked for long much.

    Street SS it's fine :)

  • 570g and probably cost as much as china carbon after shipping. Light bicycle can do 405g 25mm deep for £150+ so anything that gets close to that I'll consider. Looking like it'll probably be destickered archetypes at this rate

  • Man, I'm going through the same troubles right now. Didn't have customs in mind when looking at the Aliexpress prices.
    Archetypes looking more attractive now!

  • I wish the Hydra came in 20H, wouldve already ordered. Other option is road rim and tape/paint on the brake surface, but hardly the best solution

  • Take a wheels with the same hub and spokes with the archetype rim a say a kinlin xr22t symmetric rim, pacenti sl23 v1 e.t.c to keep things fair and measure the sideload to get nds spokes to slacken off while the rim is loaded while sitting on its axle and the result is pretty clear. You dont even have to measure it you can feel the difference just pushing down on the rim. This does not mean the archetype is a bad rim it is just there laterally stiffer rims if that is what is needed. I.e low spoke count.

  • 20h disc brake rims, there is a reason why no one makes them it is a niche market of one.

  • Once road discs become mainstream it could happen. I guess I'm really looking for track rims, but thats not really a thing anyone makes. Archetypes/TB14s are sort of what I need but kinda heavy compared to how light the macks are (320g front and rear)

  • Once road discs become mainstream it could happen

Not for loose rims, mostly because loose hub makers aren't likely to go sub-24 for disc brakes. There are factory builds with 21 (14:7) and 20 spokes, and 18 would be possible as a 12:6 build with very deep rims, but I can't see components for handbuilds going that low.

  • Like you say, very niche, but someone who may do an asymmetric design is Pacenti, they did some for bikehubstore in the US, and Kinlin have also done some for them. Either that or they're getting them in undrilled and doing it themselves.

  • Trek recalled a load of 24 H disc wheelsets last Friday because durrrr, they put them on a touring bike!

    http://www.bicycleretailer.com/recalls/2017/01/19/trek-recalls-720-disc-bikes-and-24-spoke-front-and-rear-wheels#.WIXWlPTHjTo

  • I am looking for a nice black hubs 28 or 32 for 42SL or Archetypes rims, regular rider 5000 km /year. Sturmey Archer (only 32h) or do I have other option, close to the same price range?

Sapim Polyax and 56/64 spokes. Prices for 64 spokes are
    Sapim CX-Ray, a small kitney, 180euro
    Sapim Race, 51euro
    Sapim D-Light, 64euro
    DT Swiss Aero, 102euro

but I don't wanna spend a fortune on the spokes. Race or D-Light maybe.

  • Why isn't DT comp part of your competition?

  • Guess when trek are required to be 'Born in the USA' this wouldn't happen. Because robots.

  • Hope Pro 2

Cyclebasket ACI DBs in silver @ 21p each plus £6P&P = £21.12 but don't have any appropriately sized black spokes.

Rose have DT Comp Black in 284mm and 285mm (rounding up 0.6mm on front left would save me all of 61p...), but nipples not included so total about £45 delivered.

Rose have DT Alpine III Black in 283mm and 285mm, total about £48 delivered.

Anywhere else got black butted spokes in appropriate lengths at competitive prices?

  • Suggestions for a 16h radial compatible front hub - Novatec SL is the only Novatec that covers 16H (should I just buy the normal Novatec light hub with 32 holes and only use every second hole?) :)

  • 32h hub, drillium is lighter obviously

  • 32h

Not if you want radial and same spoke length on both sides (holes are offset... :))

    hope makes a 16h front hub... http://www.hopetech.com/product/rs4-road-front-hub/#tech

  • Thanks - and the lightweight hub only comes in maximum 28H.....

  • Hello - some help from the more knowledgeable please:

Trying to decide on a front wheel set up for my TCR and long audaxs.

Hub: SP PV - 8 Dynamo

Rims. I want something to be tubeless compatabile, although not sure if I will go tubeless immediately.

    I am thinking about either:

    Kinlin XR31T
    DT Swiss 511
    DT Swiss 440

Thinking 32 hole. I am 90kg and want durability over lightness. Obviously I'm going to be using rim brakes.

Haven't got a clue about spokes...

    Cheers in advance

  • Kinlin XR31T
    DT Swiss 511
    DT Swiss 440
I am 90kg and want durability over lightness

In that case forget the 440s. The 511 would work fine, but the Kinlin is cheaper, a little bit wider and lighter, making it a win-win-win.

  • Do you mean this model? All mine are bladed spokes.

I must order like yesterday this spokes and hubs. I have a 15% off deal, last day deal, from an online store for Stumery Archer. I don't know what to do...

Any thoughts about Mavic Open Pro compared to H+Son's rims?
    This nipples will be fine?

    @Thuekr I don't know, maybe a 20h front hub, Novatec A291SB-SL? Also is only 60gr.

  • Also, anyone knows the rim thickness from Archetype/SL42? I must calculate my spokes length. Open Pro have 0.6.
