    My GB were 700x60 too, and it perfect with the 48mm tyres leaving enough clearance for gurk.

  • VO do 52, don't think there's anything wider.

    There are a few processes to blacken stainless steel. Unsure how cost effective this would be.

  • I definitely want to run 42s and now 100% sure the CX9's won't do it even with a couple of mm leeway on the bosses. Didn't realise the motolites where long pull and can't justify the cost for the sake of experiment at the mo so will stick with the Zeste's I already have for now - getting this bike on the road as soon as possible is more of a priority (as I've sold everything bar my brompton to fund this and other projects!). However, am going to take a longer look at the mini moto at some point and see if the arm length on them gives more height than the other mini-v's out there.

  • I think minimotos are 85mm

  • Well if you're right, that ain't gonna work either, they are shorter than the Cx9's which I think are 90mm.

  • I run a kaffenback with 38mm maxxis detonators and sks primus fenders.
    I was super sure the frame would fit 42mm but it didn't

  • TRP got back to me, and say it's a maximum of 61mm from the centre of the pad bolt to the noodle on the CX9. Can anyone confirm whether that's* enough to cram a 38mm and a 45mm fender in to?

  • I've had a 45mm SKS under 8.4 and the cable used to just rub so CX9 might be ok. If you can avoid mini V please do, the pads have to sit REALLY close to the rim, no leeway for wheel to be slightly out of true and the lever pull is massive due to mechanical advantage that means they are worse with wider rims. Stay canti or go full V with travel agent.

  • I thought the cable pull/clearance issue might be a bit better with new-gen shimano levers which I believe have a greater cable pull. Which levers were you using?

    Bike currently doesn't have any bosses, so centrepulls could be an option too, but they sound like a bit of a pain to keep well set up.

  • I have used the new gen shimano (5800, although 4700 has a different ratio) as well as sram (rival 1) .. I got away with it because I was using a narrow rim. Do you hate cantis?

  • Not especially. Just working out my options. Only time I've used canti's they were a bit deadly in the wet, but I think that had more to do with ceramic rims as V's weren't much better.

  • swisstop pads are great .. set them up properly and you'd be happier than mini v set up IMO.

    VO are amazingly light but margin for error is very small that it can crack without warning due to the Alu.

    Not a problem if you fit it with minimised stress.

  • They're the same price as GB, just idle speculation

  • GB are tough as nail and lighter than SKS.

    Even with the increased prices, it still a remarkably good mudguard.

  • Is alu more prone to cracking than steel? I really rate my VO guards on the road bike
