  • Fostering this little terror. 6 months fulls of energy but very bity, we have been given the task to try and get him more happy round humans

  • ..been given the task - by whom?

  • the adoption rescue home we are fostering for, not given the task as such but we are trying to get him used to being given affection from a human hand and him not attacking it.

  • So you're fostering animals at your home, which you later return to the rescue home?
You're basically trying to tame the cat a bit?

  • yeah they they dont have a great deal of space, so it frees up a space for a more needy cat at the adoption pace while he tries to be less bity, he not feral just has a habit of attacking hands and feet. Any tips on methods would be great

  • Lula, who was quite bitey when we got her is now settling down. From what I researched a stern 'no!' Along with pointing or a clap of hands & then walking away giving no affection for 5-10 minutes, makes them realise that their behaviour isn't going to get them what they want. We've now got to the point where if Lula does bite, she knows she's done wrong so stops herself going too far.
Should be easier to train out of a kitten. There is quite a lot of advice if you Google 'how to stop my cat biting', including how to stop them clawing & biting you when they play. Good luck, & thank you for the fostering, it's a good thing you're doing.

  • slowly Little Princess is getting used to being out in the back garden, although the past few frozen days has seen her (now) happily using the litter tray and straight under the duvet - hmmm - hopefully she will get used to the new environs soon so we dont have to shovel her peep and poops every day (or smell it!)

  • President catface

  • Little Brockie passed on Thursday. Stopped eating and was clearly dropping away. Gf took her to the vet to be put to sleep. She's very upset as they'd been together for 20 years. I was working away so couldn't be there, unfortunately. Such a lovely cat, will really miss her.

  • Sorry to hear. The little furry arseholes bury themselves in your heart. She had a good life and was loved, sorry you weren't there.

  • Is it weird of me to think that what will I do when Patch dies, from time to time? She is only 5 and she is likely to kill everything, quite possibly including me before she can be touched by something else, so she will quite probably die of old age, which is unlikely to happen for another decade at least... Or I would like to think...

  • Normal, I think. Suspect it is to do with something being an important part of your life.

  • Only if she thinks the same. Today I have been shown, once again, my sole purpose is to ensure the Princess' tummy is full. So I took a nap without setting the alarm, and she was so keen to wake me up at about 6pm, I was like, ohhhh... someone wants a cuddle or 6... and it turned out, her food bowls, both of them, were empty... yap... she just wanted to make sure I come back from the dead to feed her...

  • Life of servitude.

  • Woah! That's getting kinda morbid;-)
She thinks (and has other plans for) if you're not there every day... (cat FFS!)
You think (worry) about not being there to care for her every now and then. (lovely person FFS!)
    She's a survivor, you're a survivor, you're perfect for one another:-)

  • Very sorry to hear..
Hope your girlfiend is coping alright.
20 years is a very long life for a cat..

  • Any tips on methods would be great

..basically what @betty said, has been working for our cats if they were bitey.

I fucked up with the last one (my dad got) - he insisted the little, rather shy thing needed "training" to be able to defend itself against feral cats in the area (who indeed are attacking / stealing food), so I was "fighting" with her a lot in her early days.
    She learned something!

  • Good luck, & thank you for the fostering, it's a good thing you're doing.

    Also this!

  • Couldn't agree more, my Uncle manages a branch of Cats Protection, his currently has a back log of over 400 cats waiting to be taken in. They have around 40 pens.

By fostering or adopting from these places, it gives other cats a chance.

  • We'll probably get another cat in a few months time, after some mourning time for Brockie. Our thinking is that getting an older cat may be the way to go, as they're less likely to be adopted than cute little kittens and we can give one a few years of love and comfort. But just about all of the cat home websites universally say that they won't rehome a cat with dogs. Seems a little overly cautious, especially if you have dogs like ours who've lived their whole lives with a cat.

  • Thanks all will try the tips
@mustardbeak 400 back log blimey thats loads :(

  • So weekend just gone was d'day for letting Bruno out, vets in the morning to get his 2nd injections and check that the chip has been re-registered to us. All good so home to the garden.

Pretty uneventful Saturday except he now refuses to use his litter tray and will only go outside. Sunday was a bit more fun in that he was in and out all day about 10pm I went to get him back in to see him sat on the patio with a mouse. He batted the thing around till it died then played with it a bit more, this culminated with him chewing its head off and leaving the arse and tail on the steps to the back door.

As you can see he looks pretty pleased with his nights work.

  • found this on my phone this morning! clearly got caught snoozing with the little one

  • Isn't it a bit like job apps where they always ask for the best and the person who can do everything, which in reality, very rarely anyone can tick all the boxes? I'd just go ask anyway if you see a cat you want to give a home to, have a chat with them cattery, take the dogs with you, you never know.

  • This is so cute... your cat, not you, sorry man. :-P
