  • I was looking at my stable recently and gazed upon a certain frame and thought to myself 'i just wouldn't sell that to anyone'. Be it for rarity, sentimental meaning or any other reason, what is the one frame (if any) that you would never part with?

  • My wife LadyLiz and I have matching paint(purple-white sickfadez) Cilo frames. They're nothing special tubing or ride-wise but they're the bikes that got us into riding more than just the commute. We found them a few months apart and couldn't pass on the chance to go matchy. Would post a pic but they're all the way in the garage...

  • You don't keep them in your stable?

  • Whats the special frame?

  • Nah, we're mere plebs innit? I'm more likely to be kicked in the back of the head by some aristo on horseback than have anything to do with a stable.
Referring to ones bike collection as a 'stable' is worthy of a punch in the cock in my book*

*Sorry LeChef, tis a nice idea for a thread tho..

  • My battleship grey Steamroller (out of all those in my hanger)

  • I haven't managed to sell any of my Bikes/Frames yet

  • Not planning on selling any of my 'fleet' at the moment.

  • Nothing too special, a nice Raleigh SB track frame. Fits me like a glove and was a very satisfying Gumtree find.

@edmundro A thousand apologies, i get a bit equestrian after a glass of wine.

  • ^ posh sod

    swigs white cider from bottle

  • LeChef is an impostor, if anything, clearly not knowing that one doesn't have a stable but stables. Next he'll probably tell us about his mew.

  • No doubt you'll correct me Oliver but am I correct in my belief that 'stables' is the building(even if it's singular) and 'stable' is the collection of posh, lanky cows?

  • This thread is useless without moar "steed".

  • Maybe it's getting old or something but after years of frequent and often unnecessary bike changes, upgrades etc I seem to have gotten to a point where most of my stable is pretty dear to me.

Surly 1x1 - Currently rather surplus to requirements as I have another better specced and more rideable singlespeed steel mtb but I got the 1x1 for a bargain (even more than I expected to as the headtube got dinged in transit to me and I received a partial refund for it), it was the bike that really got me back into mountainbiking after not having had one for several years and it was a bike that I'd seen in catalogues when I was younger and lusted after. Also, I've dinged the toptube so doubt it'd sell for anything like a good price.

Kona Humu - A forum bargain and since owning it I've done some structural work to it to straighten/align the dropouts and I've removed and brazed cable routings, attached a bottle opener etc. It's very personalised and rides like a beast to boot.

Pompino - another bargain frame, bought in one of PX's (in)famous sales. I've had this built in so many different ways and used it for so many different things that even if I'm not using it much at any point in time I don't dare sell it as I know I'll find something to do with it sooner or later.

Genesis Flyer - my first proper fixie, later swapped for a Fuji Track frame and later still bought back from it's new owner. Has also seen attention from the brazing torch so again, is quite personalised and definitely a frame I feel I have a 'journey' with.

Fit Hawk bmx - my current bmx. Yet another frame that I've done work too, brake mounts removed, gyro holes filled, stainless steel headbadge brazed in place. I've been through loads of bmx frames, I don't think I'll have any reason to buy another unless I break this one and given the level of my riding nowadays I think that's pretty unlikely to happen.

Fit Series One - the frame I had built up previous to buying the Hawk (only bought the Hawk as the toptube length suited me better). A frame that I always liked the shape and proportions of but could never afford in my younger days. Managed to find one on ebay and given how out of date they are, it was a steal. It's now of no use to me now given that it's the wrong size, takes a bottom bracket that I'd struggle to find nowadays and weighs as much as a ship's anchor but now that I managed to buy one it ain't going anywhere.

Puch shopping bike - was abandoned at the bike shop I worked in on my last day working there before I moved on so cost me nothing. To say it's made from gas pipe would be to do gas pipe a disservice. Has survived 5 winters with virtually no maintenance other than a new chain every 6 months or so. It's the bike I kid myself on I don't care about so gets taken to the pub, used if I need to lock up etc but really I'd be gutted to see it go.

I've also got my grandfather's Flying Scot hanging in the garage. It needs new chainstays as they are rusted through. I know I could sell it pretty easily and probably for a decent amount despite the nick it's in but I'm keeping it around as I will fix it....one day...

  • As if I'd condescend to correct one of you people. Ergh, now I've used the 'Reply' function.

    *runs off to wash hands*

  • Has to be the Ron Cooper. My first proper road bike, custom made for me by Ron (RIP) when I was 15. Ridden and raced enthusiastically as teenager, then sat virtually neglected for years while I got fat and smoked funny stuff. I ended up giving it a neo-retro lease of life and it rides better than ever. Something to look forward to each Summer. 30th birthday this year!

  • Pics at last... Tnx

  • Del boy and Rodney?

  • I did grow up in Peckham, not sure about Ron!

  • This one took ages to find. I'm gonna crash it for certain.

  • Do you have the forks?

  • Get Grandad's flying scot done, it sounds like a great project.

  • Almost certain I'll never get rid of my XB3. It's a bit heavy, but it fits perfectly, it's indestructible and it's a real joy to ride.
