Awesome bike! Stainless right? It looks so weird with the short post and the tiny saddle though 😝
-
• #112203
Yeah I really don't like letting other people work on my bikes, especially if they are not that skilled... its a 9 speed deore chain so I hope it stays in one piece

Sounds alright, those are pretty solid.. however I would just use the tool for the job (a chain press)

Sounds like standard MO for non-specialist areas of the world.
When I was a kid I used the posh method of a hammer and a punch. -

Nearly perfect size actually. Because the frame has such a big (super comfy) headtube though and doesn't have a sloping top tube, it simply looks a bit unusual. For example my previous track bike has pretty much the same geometry, but does have a sloping top tube, which makes it looks much 'nicer'.

As long as it fits you then. Its just the amount of seatpost that struck me as unsual

Pengy...?

I can make you a set of inserts if you want. It works alright ;-)

Grips look great (I like the rest of it too) are they very hard or kind to the hands?
-
• #112213
Very kind indeed. I was half joking but will see how I get on securing my rando bag to my M18 front rack. If it proves too challenging I might send you a PM.

• #112214
No problem :)

• #112215
Ah, the vintage white grips.

• #112216
Is that a fishing bag?
-
• #112217
From memory they're fine, but that memory is maybe 25 years old- I'll report back.
-
• #112218
Your hands and wrists are 25 years later too, yep.
-
• #112219
Yup.

Front luggage has arrived. I have way too much old karrimor stuff now :/ clips are far superior to the ones on my ortlieb rears which was a surprise. Gonna go with a matching bar bag if I can find one.
Slightly longer and lower angle stem is the next task. That and installing an Igaro.

If you're selling that stem, please let me know.
It'd look perfect on my Thorn Sherpa that incidentally build similar to your Surly.

• #112222
Thorn Sherpa? You need to post your bikes more often!
-
• #112223
You got pm good sir.
Have been looking at Sherpas for Liz but think she's set on a troll now..
My friend has a lovely battleship grey one built as an off-road commuter(lives in the middle of nowhere in Scotland). Just hard to visualise a nice one seeing as 99% of thorn builds are horrific(albeit practical). -

How can I remove old campag dust caps? I don't have anything small enough to fit in the holes and I can't find the tool for sale in this country. Can I make a tool?
-
• #112225
You can use circlip pliers if you can't be bothered to make the tool
sounds like a fuck up.. but it really depends on the design of the chain what you can do with it. Some chains can't even have links added to them.
