Not exactly audiophile, more audio/home cinema related. I have one of these AV receivers http://www.techradar.com/reviews/audio-visual/hi-fi-and-audio/receivers/onkyo-tx-sr605-270824/review When they came out 9 years ago they were the under £500 budget pick.
It's used for movies/tv and music. Set up 5.0 with Wharfedale Diamond 9.4 (floorstanders) at the front.
I'm going to be tidying up my AV stuff shortly so if I'm going to upgrade the amp now is the time. Is there any compelling reason to upgrade, any great new technology that has been released that's a must have?
