not taking pictures at all and using the time to contemplate the fragility of human life in the face of weaponised hate and ignorance would be a great place to start as well.

Jesus Christ, this has lead to a load of holocaust deniers showing themselves on Facebook. The actual death toll was closer to 1m people and Jewish film makers exaggerated the figures for personal gain don't you know.
What the fuck is wrong with the world?

what exactly do holocaust deniers stand to gain by their position? it's utterly baffling.

A lack of dank memez.

compassionate people would have something in their mind saying 'probably best not to dance or jump on this Holocaust memorial'
Maybe they're engaging in criticism, either of the quality of the artwork, or the relentless privileging of Jewish suffering over that of any other group which has been subjected to genocide.

Pretty sure the Berlin holocaust memorial is also for all the non-Jewish 'untermenschen' who were murdered alongside the Jews.
-
• #72409
Not really. Some of them did get seperate memorials though later on.

Oh. Didn't realise. Hmmmmm.

There are plenty of cunts that will reward them, unfortunately, viz. David Irving:
"He was forced to declare bankruptcy [...] but speaking from his home in the Scottish Highlands, a 40-room mansion near Nairn provided by an anonymous benefactor [...]"

The monument has been criticized for only commemorating the Jewish victims of the Holocaust,[37] however, other memorials have subsequently opened which commemorate other identifiable groups that were also victims of the Nazis, for example, the Memorial to Homosexuals Persecuted Under Nazism (in 2008) and the Memorial to the Sinti and Roma Victims of National Socialism (in 2012).

About a year ago I visited Auschwitz 1&2 with a mate who was also couriering a aeroplane part as we had some spare time. Even I found it quite sobering and I'm a proper ...... There were some kids there on a school trip, who must have been the best pupils at that school because they all had white sweatshirts with a big star on the back! They were all running around chasing each other and generally fecking about up and down the tower of Auschwitz 2 so it takes all sorts.

Thanks TK - I stand corrected. And yes, that's a bit more problematic.

what exactly do holocaust deniers stand to gain by their position?
I guess their thought is that they are redressing some sort of perceived inaccuracy. Same way as anyone does really, whether it be Corbin supporters or non-racists Brexitiers.

Ignore the academic "Revise and resubmit" garbage.

A bit like your experience of Auschwitz, I'm surprised that anyone could not find the Berlin memorial sobering.

Examine your motives. Why do you find it impossible to see a post about the holocaust or antisemitism without feeling obliged to remind everyone that jews don't have a monopoly on persecution?

Edit: Had no idea which thread this was in. Sorry guys
Not really justifying it - but I had similar experiences going round WW1 memorials in Belgium and saw much the same thing from younger people, I wonder how much of it might be down to the sheer scale of the thing being memorialised, that makes it impossible to comprehend in any meaningful way. I still find it distasteful but I think I see it more as a society scale problem now (people don't learn about respect / dignity) rather than blaming individuals

There were some Spanish schoolkids walking round Auschwitz eating sandwiches when I was there. People taking photos at the sign is pretty common, I mean a tourist stands by the sign and smiles and their mate takes a photo.

Fuck me this is without a doubt the worst the memes thread has ever been.
You are all literally Hitler.

Literally.
From your genes to the funny moustache.

Only a week to go until holocaust memorial day, can't wait.

I agree but I would have thought most compassionate people would have something in their mind saying 'probably best not to dance or jump on this Holocaust memorial'
