Sounds like some problem with the electronics?
Did it get wet by chance?
Other than that I have no idea, mine never behaved like that.
Did the focus indication light up with the shots that came out dodgy?
I think I'd just get another one of them in good condition as you seem to like it and are used to it.
Of course there's a lot of other nice point and shoots in that price range.
I did buy a lot of them and kept the three I liked best. I think one has to hold them in ones hand, and shoot a roll with them to decide whether it suits.
If I could only have one (sub £100) I think I'd take a Nikon L35AF, or if "pocketability" mattered much an Olympus Mju-II.
