  • Is it still a dick move if you're not wearing rugby shorts and pull away quick leaving everyone in your dust?

Don't use that route but I do cross it several times a week to go to the gym. Recently saw a guy on a average-ish hybrid roll up on the right of someone on a Boardman Elite with full Di2. When the lights went he was clearly trying to overtake the Boardman guy, going full sprinter mode, and all I could think was "not in a month of sundays mate."

  • Yes, I'd say it is. Especially if the people at the front have been waiting there for ages and you have no idea how fast they are (or they've already overtaken you when it's safe to do so). It's basically just advanced shoaling for bellends.

Oh, saw a cyclist/pedestrian incident last night which resulted in cyclist pushing pedestrian in a 'pre-cursor to a fight kind of way'.

Lots of pedestrians on that stretch seem to either only look one way, or just don't look at all. Terrifying.

  • My dear wife, eager I think to impress me, took a ride on her xsmall Charge Plug around the houses. It hasn't been out much..... neither has she. Wore her helmet back to front all the way. Including helmet lights. If you see her please just pull over. N2 area.

  • Fair enough. I think I've done it once to like 3 people waiting. Obviously when there's a big line of people it's insanely rude. But generally when you're fixed acceleration is much greater and carrying speed to the bottom of that road isn't hard. Or top depending on how you go. Maybe I'm just a dick.

Really doesn't surprise me. From also going to a pool club near there regularly, I can tell you crossing there is a bit of a fucking nightmare. It's very hard to tell what the cyclist signal is and then once you cross its hard to tell where traffic is coming from. I do feel like they ruined that junction. Obviously you can just wait for the green man to cross, but most pedestrians aren't that patient as the green man occurs for 20 seconds every 2 minutes. This is at southwark station. It's particularly bad for people crossing in front of the TfL building.

  • Is it a dick move if folk are queuing on the left hand side, leaving the right hand side of the lane clear, and I pass to wait at the front of the right hand side? Because I do that often - seems to be the most efficient use of space.

  • It is a bit if you're turning left; going right or straight on, I'd agree with you

  • Walking along the canal last night, and a cyclist coming super fast the other way completely stacked it riding past me... his wheel caught the little wooden edge along the edge of the path and he toppled off and crashed into the side of a boat moored along side. Had there not been a boat there he would have ended up in the drink!

  • Nah, the way I see it is that there's basically two lanes each way. Def space to cycle two abreast each way.

It's when some other dickhead pushes up to the front, either past the stop line where pedestrians are crossing or in the lane for cyclists coming towards you then wobbles off so a) you're stuck at their pace and b) you can't get past due to their slow wobbling and the now oncoming cyclists.

  • Is is rude to shout something like "Oi, join the fucking queue, you dickhead."? Every single evening on my way home, my inner self tells me to do just this. That said, this doesn't annoy me half as much as a car, usually a white van or a black cab, blocking the bike lanes...

  • I assume I am faster than the average commuter so will often go to the right of a "queue" to get away first. Am I a dickhead?

  • Commute racing thread >>>>>>

  • -4 at mine this morning. Left the house looking like I was about to depart from Cape Canaveral.

Didn't even make it to Tooting before someone passed me in shorts, WTF?

  • its not my commute from yesterday - nor is it relevant......but yesterday, i went out with my friend to enjoy the fortuitous sun and a free day for both.

loaded my Krampus Ops and her Raleigh RXW onto my bike rack on the back of my transporter.

we went up to Cheshunt with the intention of the top half of the Lea Valley.

I completely forgot about the addition height for some reason as i went under a 2.0M height barrier........

ripped both bikes off....completely bent the Krampus and the Raleigh and destroyed the bike rack.

    as you were

  • Yeah blackfrairs always those cyclist who have no fcuking road awareness, overtake on the right into oncoming cyclists - its a nightmare, plus with the planned works at the j/o the embankment bit - trouble!.

anyways pleasant commute - cold...guys in shorts on a bmc this time going up stamford hill to woodberry grove..rides a tokyo fixed - fixed

  • Rode the whole way in behind some bellwhiff who jumped every light while wearing full club kit. He even had a sportive sticker on the back of his helmet with his fucking name on.

    Great advertisement.

  • Which club? Name names. Odds are 2/1 London Dynamo, 4/1 Dulwich Paragon, 5/1 Team Sky, 40/1 Brixton / VCL

  • None of the above! CCL, which seems unlikely - they're normally very good.
We don't get many LD, DP, Brixton or VCL up North of the river.

  • Sounds like it's time to write a strongly worded email to the club secretary. There are few things more effective than that.

  • doitdoitdoit

  • Too slow. Done already. I'm a vindictive son of a bitch.

  • Not vindictive at all. He's a club member and he's advertising for his club so there is no better person to take him to task for riding like a douchebro than the secretary. You're just #makingbritaingreatagain

  • Great Britain refers to the landmass of England, Scotland and Wales, i.e. the large island of the British Isles. It is NOT an expression of 'greatness' in some competitive context, except by fascistoid types. I explain because you are a forrin.

  • An hour ride to the school I was teaching at, arrived with a good layer of frost on my beard.
