Nothing I'm afraid, you can always chase up on warranty tho.

I believed the kevlar was there, as snottyotter suggested, to stop the cable bursting under load. I thought the linear strands kept the length constant.
It is, the Jagwire use the kevlar to hold the linear strands, whether Yokozuna use coiled outer to hold the linear strands (abet a lots stiffer).
Regarding pad alignment do you mean the pads not being parallel to the rotor? I had wondered about this. They do look to be off a very slightly.
Pads not aligned inside the calipers, every once in a while I build up a bike whose pads simply doesn't sit straight inside, BB5/7 were notorious for this issues in the past which is why people have poor experiences with them.
Shimano, TRP, etc. are not without problem.

I think what we're both getting at is why do you think there is any difference in performance between the two?

Base on using them both, even on different bicycle with rim brakes.

Experience rather than any actual explanation to why? Fair enough.

I'm going to try the jagwire elite link on my new bike with juin tech r1 brakes as I can't get Yokozuna.
Will report back -

Cycleworx no longer stocking it? Will have a word with Ben about when theyre next getting it in

It says pre-order only since before Xmas and when I asked about restocking via email I didn't get any response.

Facing a dilemma
Commuter bike is a flat bar Pompetamine with bb7s 160mm rotors I have been happy with these (take a little while to set up but then ok).
Nicer bike Genesis Vapour Disc (tiagra 10 speed) with hayes cx expert 160mm rotors, went to put mudguards on this today (after a little while in the shed due to winter and no mudguards) to discover rear brake is super stiff, not sure if lever, caliper or cables.
Going to drop Genesis into the local shop to see if they can diagnose/fix (and put mudguards on at the same time). I have found the hayes ok while they have been working (a couple of thousand km) but not yet had to do anything with them/even change pads and understand from reviews they are not 'favoured' as such I had thought about changing them anyway.
Hopefully there will be an easy fix; if not and I have to spend money having trouble deciding which of the following options is the best way to resolve...
Option 1: I believe the forum favoured calipers that would work with my levers would be a direct swap for the hayes would be TRP Spyre (~50 quid a caliper, thought to be better than the bb7) or HY/RD (~100 quid a caliper) if I want to pay a little more?
Option 2: would be to move the bb7 calipers (which have had a fair bit of use) to the Genesis and get some shimano mtb hydraulic disc brakes for the commuter ~50 quid an end for deore 615 (this seems an ok option?)
Option 3: Go full (shimano) hydraulic on the Genesis, but am I right in saying that as I currently have a 10 speed set up the most cost effective way to do this would be to buy a full groupset ie this 105 one for 500 quid and then sell/parts bin the 10 speed stuff, need to check my hubs are ok for 11 speed if going for this option.
Have I missed anything, opinions informed/otherwise as to the best option welcomed!

Thanks. How does one tell if the calliper or pads in the calliper are misaligned? Mine are Shimano BR-CX77 which were tightened in place when with the pads clamped on the rotor by depressing the lever.
-
• #3015
Option2 probably won't work as your bb7s on the flat bar Pomp are most likely bb7 mtn. You'd need bb7 road to work with your drop bar levers.

Mine have started howling recently, fine if I put a bit of heat into them but then returns - anything to try besides cleaning the pads and rotor?

Thanks for the feedback I am fairly confident they are a sram flat bat road brake compatible lever and road bb7s. We will see what the prognosis is when I drop the genesis in tomorrow, having had some time to mull it over I think I have decided to (if necessary) replace hayes caliper with hy/rd, depending on funds, possibly just one placed at the front and move the working front caliper to the rear, with potential eventual replacements with another hy/rd or full hydraulic set up.
This also influenced by the pain I also experienced yesterday (not for the first time) changing the chain on my pomp, which involves resetting up the disc brake caliper every time I touch the rear wheel (see pompino thread) as such if I spend any money on the pomp it may well be to try and resolve this issue (v brake/fixed on a flipped disc hub at the rear would seem cheapest, new dropouts/ebb/frame more expensive option)

Indeed the slippery slope is so tempting, do something fun with/sell the pomp, downgrade genesis to ss commuter with ebb, new nice bike, default on mortgage.

always this

What brakes? I got a pretty big squeal out of spyres during an emergency stop the other day, but only happened once in a 2 hour ride. Discs are an absolute mystery to me most of the time

RS685. They've always been noisy in the wet which I'd expect - but leaving the house this Monsignor and braking down the hill I thought I'd wake up the whole street.
Hoping it's just a load of shit/salt on the pads after the recent weather. Might pick up some disc brake cleaner from Evans on the way home.

• #3023
Dont know how many miles youve done on them but is there a chance theyve completely worn out? Should they really be noisy in the wet? Seems like a design flaw if they are
-
• #3024
I'd clean the pads and rotors before any pursuing any other path.
-
• #3025
Discs are noisy in the rain, that's a fact.
Done a 1000 miles on them but had the wheels out at the weekend and pads were fine.
Good clean is probably due, beyond just MucOff over the whole bike.
I'm sure this is an issue with my commuter setup atm (Spyre's on Shimano centrelock rotor). How could I remedy?
