Hi all, thought this might be the best place to ask. I'm thinking of swapping to a single, narrow/wide chainring and upgrading from 8 to 10 speed on a bike I've primarily used for long distance touring. The drive train is worn out and the bike could do with a new lease of life. But I'd like to keep running friction shifters - anyone have experience running friction shifters with a clutch rear derailleur? Does it work?

Yeah, that rack is lovely. I'd pay good money for one of those.

You don't need a clutch rear mech unless you plan on doing something that really needs it. The 9spd, non clutch, stuff works with 10spd Road shifters and 10spd drive train. Check out rd-m771.
The clutch stuff is dyna-sys, so has a different cable pull ratio to the road gear and won't work with DT shifters. If you insist on a clutch, microshift do a bar-end shifter that would work with dyna-sys -

Reader's. Current winter ride, what with snow and such being rather persistent this year.

what basket on the first one?

So rad!! Especially the first one. Do you know what the bars are called or where to get something similar?
-
• #14112
They look like motorcycle bars, which explains the bmx 22mm clamp stem

I figured if I'm going to ride 650b and mudguards I might as well go full rando and now I think my bike falls in the FBNPNA category.

low rise compared to bmx and 820mm wide suggest moto-x bars indeed. I got something similar.

As already suggested, they are motorcycle bars.
The wide spacing of the knurled areas makes me sure of it.
Warning: Being that motorcycle bars are designed for motorcycle risers which are much wider than bicycle stems, they might be more likely to bend.
These braced ones are probably ok but I have just bent a set of aluminium 28.6mm 'fat' bars way out of shape by fitting them to my mtb in an old Azonic stem.
@MisterMikkelare yours ali or steel? My braced steel ones are fine but the ali unbraced ones lasted only one ride, something to be aware of...

Mine are ali, and there is a bit of flex in them - but the manufacturer states they are made from 7075 and they feel solid enough. We'll see how long they last.
Thanks for the heads up! -

Thanks for the responds guys. Moto-x makes a lot of sense.

So motorbike bars have a clamp diameter of 31.8mm?
That looks lovely! More pictures?
