however your braking performance could well be the pads not sitting straight on the calipers (quite common) resulting in a soft feel

I'm sure this is an issue with my commuter setup atm (Spyre's on Shimano centrelock rotor). How could I remedy?

Nothing I'm afraid, you can always chase up on warranty tho.
