I thought as much. My lava dome really is a lovely frame, and after I added v-brakes it now stops incredibly well too.
I changed mine, because I tried to put my backpack on the rack one day, and the steering went from great to really sketchy - my thinking was, that a wider bar would provide more leverage to counter the wheel flop made worse by the extra weight over the front wheel. Now the ride is incredibly stable - I had feared the worst about putting a 50mm stem on, after having tried a 80mm with on one Marys on a road bike - but this setup is something else!
I promise I was only joking. when I saw yours with the Albatross bars it made me happy to think someone else has discovered how excellent old Kona's are to convert.
I love yours by the way. and the new bars look great, I've been thinking of changing mine to something similar!
