  • Clapham has been a meat market for years so they picked a good spot to attempt some conversions.

  • Yeh was thinking.. probably the most less vegan place in South London along with Balham

  • I love this kind of story. There was an article on the Guardian site (?) one of their bloggers went vegan and the whole world went crazy over it... same thing, vegan and meat eaters thinking they're both right, resulting in much piss-taking and slagging off.

  • I'm quite pleased with that. The bulk of the anti-vegan commentary seems to come from one guy who declares his undying love for Katie Hopkins, Trump and Brexit. Not exactly a prime target for conversion.

  • Deeply embroiled in another blog about a vegan and her non-vegan boyfriend... it's absolute carnage!

  • ^^ Uh-oh, Mrs Hammer is doing Veganuary.

  • Mrs kl is doing it as well, with no prompting on my part. She has no ethical qualms whatsoever, and is planning on doing it only for the month to see if it helps shift Xmas pounds. I've never been bothered what someone else eats, and she very rarely has meat or dairy in the house, but would be good if she could keep it up.

  • Funnily enough my GF is doing it as well and no prompting from me either... I cook most of the time anyway so she eats what I eat 90% of the time so giving up a chop or whatever at the weekend shouldn't be too taxing for her.

  • I could not go out with a meat eater. Don't know how other vegans do it. The thought of kissing the same mouth that had the meat in it really turns me off.

  • Toothpaste and brush?

  • The whole vegan gf thing has never bothered me really, plus finding the perfect other half and them being vegan is a ball ache. I used to work with someone who couldn't kiss her bf after she ate meat which is fuckin pathetic.

  • So many euphs.

  • Any food recs for LA, SF or anywhere if you make a big triangle between there and Yosemite Valley?

  • Doomies (https://www.instagram.com/doomies/) in LA for vegan junk food including an awesome Big Mac as a "secret menu" item, had great fried "chicken" bits there too, we went back the next day..

In SF there's plenty of street food places, No No burgers were stand out: https://www.instagram.com/nonoburger/

Also in SF there's a great Mexican place in Mission called La Taquiera, I'm vegetarian but I'm sure you could go vegan there too. The place was busy but amazing, well worth a visit. https://m.facebook.com/LaTaqSF/

  • Quarrygirl is currently in LA and her latest updates show her eating her way around the city, which might help. :)

I've always thought the Doomies 'Big Mac' is very clever.

  • Ah! Will take a look.

Not exactly sure why I read those comments but I just did.

    Phew.

To be honest - here in Berlin I've never found it a problem to be vegan whatsoever.
And I mean both the issue of finding places that offer yummy vegan food (there's another one opening like every second day, also even the cheapo discounter supermarkets offer a lot of vegan products now - it's amazing what has happened in the last years when it comes to this!), as well as the "conflict" with people that do eat meat - it's hardly ever a problem.
So reading those comments somewhat baffled me.
I guess I'm so used to a way of handling of the situation where (more or less) everyone is doing as they please - and it's respected.

  • Let's all move to Berlin

  • To be honest I just re-read what I wrote, and realised that I was not talking about Berlin as a whole (not possible), but about the kind of people I'm surrounded with generally (with a level of tolerance / live-and-let-live above average I guess).

It is true however, that you can get vegan food very easily compared to other cities, and often it's very affordable.

  • Agreed on the food front in Berlin, I was there two years ago and the food was pretty amazing to say the least. There was a great burrito place near Alexanderplatz... in fact I went there twice the food was so good, place was called Delores or something?

It's always a strange one with conflict over vegans and non-vegans... I can't remember the last time I took the piss out of someone for eating meat but it seems like we're easy targets sometimes as well for going against the grain. I gave up on giving a shit what people think years ago as I don't see what my decisions in life have to do with anyone else.

  • I'm up for that

  • If you're against grain too, what's left to eat?
