Long-standing Leicester favourite, Alan Birchenall, had a heart attack last night. He scored this cracker against Leeds in the first game I ever went to at Filbert Street, playing for the "entertainers" that Jimmy Bloomfield assembled. They never won anything, but played beautiful football and are the reason I loved the game.
The Birch still works for the club - MCs the half-time entertainment, greets the opposition teams, all-round ambassador and raises a shed load for charity with his runs every year. Wishing him well.
Sorry to hear that. Remember listening to him on BBC Leicester as a kid. Part of the fabric of the club and as good as authority on Leicester as there good be. Did it on and off the pitch. Hope he pulls through.
