  • Another setback/update:

The UK look distributors got back to us and their initial thought of getting a seatclamp asap wasn't the case and if I was to order one it would take 90 days to actually get one...

So I'm going with the initial seatclamp and we are phoning around for a specialist who knows about drilling carbon.

    It's no black art.

Ideally, carbide drill bit (because it'll stay sharp), followed by a reamer because I think those pegs want to be a snug fit. Could be done by hand but since it's going in at a slight angle to the surface it'll be better if they can make a drill guide to clamp onto the post to support the drill bit. Even just on a pillar drill, as long as it's all clamped up nice and square and they take it easy, it'll drill ok. You'll want to go through both sides of the post in one go so that the holes are inline.

I've drilled quite a lot of carbon. As long as the drill is nice and sharp, you can use a high quality jobber drill (from Dormer etc). For those 4 holes it'll be fine.

Make sure you know how far down the post the holes need to be. You don't want them drilled too close to the end.

Check there aren't any bosses bonded onto the other side of the hole (inside the post) to spread the load.
