  • I've been dotting the nanas around my greenhouse but I'll give the more enclosed method a bash

  • I've been dotting the nanas around my greenhouse

Thou misseth the point and have been alerted.

  • Banana importers bring nanas in on ships to Blighty in a very green condition.
Once landed, the nanas are put in rooms where ethylene gas is pumped in to begin their ripening.
This is one reason why banana boxes have holes in.
Ethylene is a plant hormone which causes every fruit to ripen.
Bananas are great at creating ethylene gas once their ripening process has begun.

    LOve nanas

  • Mumble mumble slack grannies dot com mumble mumble.

  • Get in touch with the Royal Parks. They've been doing studies around Regents Park trying to work out the best habitat for hedgehogs (as it is the only central London park with a population of hedgehogs). They'll have some ideas.

  • Has anyone tried any of the following for weed control in lawns or patios:

    Steam gun
    Hot air gun
    Flame thrower

Looking for an alternative to harsh chemicals

  • how is the lawn by the way ?
    under water yet ?

  • Either the soakaway is working or it's not rained proper like in ages.

  • Lots of inspiration at local communty allotment garden. We're not big meaty so bbq pointless, pizza oven though.. less sure about the outside loo...

  • That is brilliant!!

  • Till the fish arrived I was like "meh". Then I was like "yeah".

  • Imagine having the reverse but on a human scale.

  • First seeds of the year sitting on windowsill / radiator. Snack peppers!
Pretty sure these are some sort of F1 but let's see.
Chili peppers I did last time were a huge success, both in- and outside the house..

  • Reminds me I need to order some chilli seeds

  • Just buy some nice chilis?

  • Can't buy the chillies that I want to grow around here

  • Ah, ok!

    : ]

  • Actually you made me think about pushing my chili game to the next level - have ordered some special seeds now as well!

    Capsicum rhomboideum

    Habanero Gambia

    Habanero Surinam Red

  • In other news: all spring onions need is to be put in a glass with an inch of water and they keep growing like crazy.

  • oo exciting!

I've just ordered a carolina allspice bush and an elderberry bush for my garden along with some rhubarb. Knowing me, when grown, it will end up in some sort of homebrew.

  • Anyone have a spade I could borrow, or an old one they don't need anymore?

We live in a flat but bought a potted pine tree for Christmas. We've been keeping it watered with a plan to plant it in he neglected park near our flat - wanted it to get milder first.

No idea if it'll sit unobserved long enough to take root, though...

  • What should I be doing in our allotment at this time of year? Is there stuff to be getting on with?
I've planted some garlic, anything else?

  • What Vegetables Are Early Planting Vegetables?

Also if I had an allotment I'd be preparing a lot of stuff indoors right now.
