Last night I went roughly:
St John's Hill, Lavender Hill etc (A3036) to Vauxhall, then Albert Embankment to York Rd, Stamford St A3200 to London Bridge, A10 north as far as Bethnal Green Road, then to Cambridge Heath Rd -> Mare St and eventually Lower Clapton Rd -> Lea Bridge Rd.
I think my main aim is avoid A3036 -> A3200 and then avoid London Bridge -> A10.

For the first bit, I'd head from Clap J to Battersea park. Enjoy the ambience before heading out across Chelsea Bridge and then along the embankment all the way to London Bridge. Many less lights and some nice sights. After that you're into "therebedragons" land for me. Good luck.

Oh ok...im going from Croydon to Edmonton Green. the A10 is fine after liverpool street. London Bridge is a nightmare.
Went via Blackfriars - Finsbury Park this morning.
you could alternatively head towards regents park/camdem to avoid blackfriars or head down from vauxhall to constitution hill into waterloo (bit slow i reckon) up to strand or holborn to upper st and take the A107
