Chuck the race in some boiling water for a bit and add a little grease and try again?
That could work.
I'm slightly worried about the beating I've given the fork so far..
I'm sure there's only so much damage you can do with a piece of PVC pipe
had a Cane Creek race and Surly fork that was 'troublesome'. Alas, cooling the fork and heating the race didn't make the difference.
The proper tool however...
