The Haribo have already fallen victim to my frustration. Have only managed to get the crown race on half way with the trusty PVC pipe tool

Is it a cartridge headset? Then cut the race.

It is, but the race has an integrated seal I don't want to damage. And I doubt I can get it off easily anyway. I think letting a shop hit it with the appropriate bit of metal may be the best option, as dull as that may be
