1,000 miles a year, no VED? Sounds like calling for a taxi is going to be the best option.

maybe 500 miles, but going to keep it in garage for the next 10 years (which should help reduced insurance cost further).

The current back-up car is a 180hp diesel monster of a people carrier, which cost more to run than the BMW despite no reliability issues.
