  • Im currently on a bike tour but I keep having problems with the rear derailleur. I use a old Deore LX RD-M550 derailleur with a 9 speed cassette and microshift bar end shifters. This setup should be fine even though its a 7 speed derailleur right?
I can't get it adjusted properly and it doesnt change gears quickly and caused the chain to break 3 times in the last 900km. Not sure if I should spend money on a new derailleur or not... any ideas?
Edit: the cables are new and smooth and it does changes gears it just takes long and doesnt go easily...

  • Is there some friction being caused by the outer cables or the cable routing round the bb etc?

  • Bent derailleur or eyelet? It's kind of obvious, but are you using a 9-speed chain? Poor indexing by Microshift maybe?
