  • is it even a tube?

  • Sounds like someone needs to ride Di2 set up!

  • My current thinking is now:

    • Seven - either Axiom SL or Evergreen Pro or 622 SLX - whichever gives me the best comfort and accommodates wider tyres
    • Shimano Dura-Ace R9170 Di2
    • Quarq DZero Four crankset
    • Enve 4.5 AR Rims with DT Aerolite spokes on DT 180 rims with center-lock for the discs

    But... will test ride me some Di2 before I commit to going Shimano. Will also want to look at the frame extras and compare stiffness and other minor things to decide on the frame.

    I'm probably going to blow my budget, even with help from lovely people on here.

  • For the fork? Probably the Enve Gravel.

    I think it's the only one that supports the thru-axle.

    Kinda frustrated at the Enve rims. I want their road rims and the whole "aero with wider tyres" thing, but in the higher spoke count that the M Series has. The 4.5 AR only come in 24h.

    But the Quarq looks like it's been well received by everyone who has touched it, whereas most people have complaints about the others. Nothing is perfect, but the Quarq seems universally acceptable.

  • Yes - nout wrong with Quarqs. Mixing SRAM and Shimano is a bit esoteric but I was thinking that if you are concerned about blowing the budget and want to maximise enjoyment of the bike a PM would be the first thing to get the chop in favour of something more rad, like more premium Italian footwear.

    tl:dr a copy of Faster by Hutch is more fun and much cheaper

  • The power meter is the only concession to weight and budget.

    But I think I'll get a lot from it, so I'm throwing it in there anyway.

  • And on budget... if anything goes it would be hydro discs... £1,000 just for levers and calipers.

    But not to consider a SON dynamo up front ;)

    Which I'm not convinced I need, but I do like that on the overnight rides on the Mather there was always lighting.

    But then... I figured I still have a SON on an Enve 29er rim on the Mather, and figure if I wanted it I already have it (with a qr to thru-axle adaptor).

    Yeah, I saw.

    But not actually available yet. Partly why I'd love to speak to Madison to see if this could be an option.

    April is possible.

    The frame will take 7-8 weeks, puts me into mid-March.

    The other components will come from far and wide and need accumulating, building. So I doubt I'd have the bike before April.

    But if they arrive in May or June... then the Quarq is a no-brainer for me.

  • the frame I'm still undecided on... Seven, yes likely... but I may change from a Carbon/Ti mix to Ti.

    You seem pretty keen on Seven, but just to throw one more into the mix, I always liked the look of Kualis frames - the builder worked at Seven for several years amongst others before going solo, then moving back to Japan recently (so prices now in ¥ not $). Detail and paint are amazing. Not sure if he has a partner in London currently.

  • I am keen on Seven. The ones I've seen look great, the ones I've ridden felt great, and I trust that the framebuilders Cycle Fit work with will translate the characteristics of the ride I want into the bike rather than just the fit measurements.

    Kualis look interesting, but it doesn't look like he's made many thru-axle's yet. Looks interesting enough to follow though. I bet in a year or two his work is even more incredible.

  • David personally I would drop the hydro.

    If required.

    Good rim brakes will be just as good as hydro discs. My ceramic open pros with pads were amazing.

  • I'm having a bit of a shitty time with my Shimano set up.
