  • So I just took delivery yesyerday of my first ever carbon frame, having had my Caad 7 for a little while now i've realised that its too small (and not the size that it was sold as) so that will be going up for sale.

Build spec list atm is as follows

    Frameset: Planet X Nanolight
    Groupset: Sram Red
    Cranks: ROTOR 3D
    Seat: Selle Italia SLR

Everything else is pretty much undecided so suggestions are welcome, especially for wheelsets as thats the next big move on the cards.

I have enough parts to have it built up and running from the CAAD so i will swap what I need over to get it on the road and slowly upgrade as and when I find what I want.

The aim is for this to be sub 7 eventually.

  • SO firsts first, today I set out buildig it up with my newly aquired sram red group and rotor cranks, luckily the frame came with the correct BB installed for the rotors so I didnt have to build it up with the Red Cranks that I got with the group these will probably be sold onto a friend who wants to get the compact versions to replace his non compacts, for now however I will use the chainrings.

  • Issue 1: the frame was advertised cheaply and there was a small reason, the bottle cage bosses on the downtube are spinning in the frame, theres a bottle cage half attached. Its a fairly nice carbon one but luckily we figured a way to hack saw it so that we could just slip it off over the bolt for now to get it out of the way.

Does anyone have reccomendations about somewhere to get the bosses fixed? Within london ideally.

  • My bro has the same frame in white

  • Why don't you slip in between bottle cage and frame circlips to take up the slake and then glue on top off the nut

  • Got any photos of your brothers build? What does he think of how it rides?

Also not quite sure what you mean?

  • Eh

  • Will send pictures tomorrow. His well happy with the bike

  • Loctite 406. Problem solved.

(be careful not to get it anywhere you don't want it)

  • You could try "pulling" the nutserts up. There are correct tools for this both pneumatic and manual, it is also possible to make a ghetto style one.

  • Try using a QR skewer, think park tool have a toutorial some where online.

  • What size is this?

You should be fairly easily able to get it sub 7 and then the aim should be sub 6.5kg. Thats about as light as I ever got mine.

    cracking frames

  • Did you gazump me on the groupset?

  • Lol what? Is this the meme thread now?

  • @dazzrie @freezing77 doe both of these fixes require the use of the thread on the cage boss? Cus if so there are bolts in them, one ablut 1 cm out and one flush to the frame.

  • Slight problem with this frame can't get 25 tyre on rear

  • Yes I may have done! Appologies, but its gone to a good home, its replacing a Campag record group that is (for lack of better words) shagged. Cant wait for some smooth shifting and use of all 20 gears!

  • Damn, yeah was wondering about that, im riding 23s atm, guess with a wide profile rim i'll fit 25s? Im happy to make the sacrifice for the wishbone stays though!

  • I beleive its a large, trying to track down the GEO charts for it so i can figure that out and get the full spec, the large is only 35g heavier than the small though from what i know so it shouldn't be too much of a problem reaching the same weight, im not looking to spend mad money on the wheels though so this may limit me slightly.

Were you going full weenie to get it to sub 6.5kg?

  • I was thinking about this frame and when researching it I found the geo chart, I'll dig it out later when I'm at the PC.
Interested to see your build good luck

  • Awesome, this is a 2011, if you have the specs for it that would be greatly appreciated!

  • No probs but it will be a while before I can get to the pc

  • I had a similar thing with my CAAD8. Popped into the West End branch of Evans and they put a new rivet in - 2 minute job. Aluminium frame though, not sure if this would work for carbon. Hope it helps and good luck!

  • Yeah not sure i'd want to trust evans with sorting this as i think it needs to be bonded to the carbon, tbh i might just try it myself with locktight as suggested above but it might leave it looking a bit DIY.

  • We had dabbled with the idea of superglue, will this damage the clear coat or even worse the carbon?
