Thanks for that. That's cool as man, where you get it from?

Snapped the seatstay/seat-tube join, so welded them and added a gusset. Also made a new front rack from an old land rover floor pan, and some stainless tube.

They were floating around on here around '09 ish I think. Can't remember who made them but was given one on a ride.

I have always liked to think of myself as moderately competent.

too much I'd change from build OTP, and tyre clearance looks a lil small (ideally I want 40c or more with guards).

Worth mentionding that come with a rubber shims for smaller bars.

It has to, it's my only means of transport/adventure (planning on riding to gothenburg on it at the end of the month). It receives much better care than it used to! Also made a new (wooden) light bracket, after the old one broke.

Im currently on a bike tour but I keep having problems with the rear derailleur. I use a old Deore LX RD-M550 derailleur with a 9 speed cassette and microshift bar end shifters. This setup should be fine even though its a 7 speed derailleur right?
I can't get it adjusted properly and it doesnt change gears quickly and caused the chain to break 3 times in the last 900km. Not sure if I should spend money on a new derailleur or not... any ideas?
Edit: the cables are new and smooth and it does changes gears it just takes long and doesnt go easily... -

Is there some friction being caused by the outer cables or the cable routing round the bb etc?

Spotted this on AliExpress.
I am not a structural engineer but this doesn't look structurally sound.
@mdcc_tester Stress test please...

Bent derailleur or eyelet? It's kind of obvious, but are you using a 9-speed chain? Poor indexing by Microshift maybe?
-
• #112066
its basically a stepthrough flipped on its head, im sure its as safe as any cheap china frame.
-
• #112067
The indexing is okay I used it with an other derailleur without problems. I suspect the derailleur to be bent but you can't really see it...

Best that you don't look at a Lotus 110 or TriRig Omni then
Losing the down tube is fine as long as you throw enough extra material at the top tube and seat tube. You have to add back the torsional stiffness you've lost from a straight tube running from headstock to BB into the much longer dogleg route, so it's very inefficient in terms of material use. -

It's not, because you haven't also flipped the loadings.

Long ride, aren't you in the UK? Or are you going by boat ;)

Reused the brooks tape off my drops to pad out the middle a bit.
Does the cable outer look a bit short?

TBH I don't know why you didn't cut it down.
The Surly's frame colour is one of the best.

The steerer you mean? It'll be cut down at my lbs asap.
Tape is double thickness so can go back on drops if req.
Def the best lht colourway I reckon, that, along with troll purple. -

Length looks fine to me. Front could potentially be longer for smoother curve but only if being really picky.
Don't go doing any barspins though.
Talking about cable outer BTW.

Yeah it's not pinching anywhere so think I'll just go with it.
Hopefully getting a tubus tara this week and want to have this mod done so I can put my light out front.
