Ugly but not a bad idea, MTB forks usually need maintenance and this cuts that out.
I've heard an issue with these is that they also bend side to side a bit too (as well as up and down) so they make the steering feel really sloppy
They are a good choice for washboard roads - small travel, but very responsive. Think long races such as tour divide etc.
