I have one of those ports on my Talbot roadie for when/if Shimano ever go wireless.

Shimano will never go wireless. SRAM hold the patent for a wireless control systems and I can't see them licensing ..

I'm sure Shimano have a whole stack of patents that SRAM would love to access, so some kind of patent licensee agreement between them is highly likely, if it doesn't exist already.
