Yeah, from reading it does sound like an excellent all-rounder.
Although there have been a few times we've needed something bigger, lack of kids and access to a 4 door golf, means there's no need. Plus living in Ldn and out of the UK mean there are only 20-something ks on my 6yr old mini. Until there's an imperative it seems silly to sell.
I've driven a golf with the 1.4tsi engine auto which you can get in the Octavia. I really liked that engine as sensible real world balance of tax/ parking permits / but still nippy for a chubby car.... although leagues away from noz powered Volvos :(
My sister's police driving instructor reckons the mk3 octavia vrs is the best car he's ever driven, for what it's worth. My mk1 vrs is more than enough car for me and (apart from a current dodgy coil pack) has been basically trouble free and a fun drive for the past 8ish years I've owned it.
