  • Iirc someone mentioned that brand up-thread, not certain though. May be around talk of PX options?

  • I'd just mount the set but I don't already try it
I think it's a cheap way to handle something at your handlebars

  • How are those bars? I am considering some.

  • I love it. Great stability plus confy "aero" position. And of course great bondage possibilities...

  • Thanks for the pictures! Looks good! Im guessing the dry bag is fully removable from the harness? At this price I might just order one and give it a try!

First time for me doing any touring this year so just looking for some cheaper alternatives to get me started. If anyone has any recommendations for kit then I'm all ears!

  • alpkit

    e. whops I read "what". Havent mounted mine yet but they seem quite solid :-)

  • For 19£ i can´t see how you can go wrong...

  • For those who were interested (@rofl @Clockwise) in the PX Frame Bag, mine has arrived.

Short review - it's "ok". Seems solid enough but the straps are clearly made for wider tubes than mine. If I pull them tight to hold the bag well around the tubes then the hook part of the Velcro can't attach to the fluffy part of the Velcro. If I do the straps up as intended then there is a lot of slack and the bag hangs about an inch below the top tube. So to make it work it'll need a bit of fiddling - will probably buy a roll of Velcro and stick it onto the strap to extend the hooked part.

Alternatively, I'm quite lazy, so if anyone wants to take it off my hands for £10, then let me know!

  • Who needs bottles anyway

  • Hah, quite - it is mounted to a very small frame in that photo, and, crucially, my small coffee flask fits without fouling it.

  • Mine is/was with DHL somewhere random, I've given up on it and gone for a paypal refund.

  • Planning to return mine, the description clearly mentions skinny steel tubing.

  • the "dry" bag is removable and a velcro strap help to fix it. But It's a pooor quality bag, I will use another
Alpkit prupose a cool bundle of 3 good quality stem bags, for 70e (?)
for 30e you can find a KTM saddle bag, 60e for a Blackburn framebag and yop, go to ride with a bondage style

  • Did a bit of a mod to my Carradice Super C Saddlepack. Essentially, if the pack is not full, then the lid flaps about and the rear light clipped into the loop on the lid ends up pointing down.

Adding an adjustable strap each side enables the lid to be pulled up the the plastic former inside the pack.

Also, found a better way to mount the bag. The Carradice web illustration shows the 2 hanging straps passing through the cam lock from front to rear. I found that you can get a better tightness if you loop the strap back through the cam lock from back to front. ie In reverse.

  • Are many people on here using Stem bags like the alpkit stem cells? I was thinking of using one for storing an external battery pack and a couple of other bits.

Do they move around much and is the alpkit one any good? I've seen some made from climbers chalk holding bags but for about a tenner extra for the real thing I can't be bothered with the hassle trying to sew straps on one!

  • Top tube bags? Yes, I have about three of them now. They're one of the most useful bags for food or for batteries/elec.

  • Ah sorry, I meant like these. I can't fit a gas tank style one because of the cable routing on my frame unfortunately

  • I fitted a dip bag with webbing taking a whole 5 minutes to sew. It goes on the aero bars fine and doesn't noticeably flap about. Ymmv on fitting to the stem, I had the sleeping bag under the bars so stem real estate was occupied.

  • I've got a stem cell. Doesn't flap around so much that I notice it. Can get in the way of my knees when I get out of the saddle.

  • I've got a couple of stem cells .... pretty useful, doesn't get in the way for me, and carries a cup of coffee!

  • Ah cool. I'll be using it with drops, I do ride out of the saddle quite a bit on climbs so hopefully I won't bang into it.

  • How are those Salsa Anything bags/cages?

  • Good....I just keep light weight stuff in them.... The bags are pretty stiff, so it can be difficult to stuff things in, but they are very waterproof.

  • Looks like a good set-up, I wonder how well a ghetto version made from plastic bottles with the tops cut off would work. Fixing them so they don't swing into the wheel would be the trick...
