Is the chainline ever going to get extreme enough that ramps & pins are going to cause problems? I'm not saying this point of view is correct, but it just occurred to me that if I were using two adjacent sprockets on a cassette I wouldn't expect the chain to come off the big ring.

Even on singlespeed, you be surprised how often it can actually come off the chainring, it's not just the ramp and pin but also the teeth shape which is not identical like a proper singlespeed chainring.

Looking to pick up a Brooks saddle to go with my Dad's Black Edition Brompton - the all black Cambium C13 seemed like a good match...
HOWEVER it seems this Brooks has oval / carbon rails - which are not to be side clamped??
Is there a post / clamp / adaptor that would fit??? -

I'd avoid doing this and get the normal Cambium.

Chainline seems to be ok

Will do, not sure the aesthetic gains are worth the hassle...

Got the ti parts workshop hinge clamps for Christmas, just fitted them and either I've fitted them wrong or the spring does nothing and the bolt is only just long enough to let you open/shut the clamp... Still, they look nice.

Oh! Yessssss!

Meaning the Alfine chainset would work perfectly well with it.

Might be good since the DA chainring have ramp and pin...

I'm liking the Alfine idea very much, but with a maximum tooth count of 45, and a struggle to find single speed chainrings on a PCD of 110, with more than 50t I think the comedown from my current 54T set up would make it too spinny to be useful.

Your GI if you're running a 3 speed is still high with a 45t chainring, having said that, SJS have a 50t one.

I'm thinking of putting my Riken on the Ti Brompton on the basis that it's all the unreliable PoS is good for.

Running a 2-speed, Ed - That changes things slightly - does it not?
-
• #2624
Slightly but not that much, if you find yourself spinning out too much with 54/12, then stick with 54t.

Order placed with SJS for chainring, and Tredz for chainset - who then tell me they don't have it in stock, and don't know when they will. Arsebiscuits.
ETA - Tredz order cancelled. New order placed with €vans.
Would that I were a rich man...
Keeping an eye out for a set of FSA SLKs for cheap now though, I'm thinking generally 130BCD is best as I can use the standard Brompton ring. It doesn't seem like there's much out there in the way of 54t 3/32 rings without ramps and pins. Carbon would be nice (because it looks cool) and external BB would be good because modern (and my Shimano HT2 has caused me no issues ever).
