Why silly?
I'd agree if you have half decent brakes, 140 is plenty and 160 locks a lot... my CX frame is designed for 160, so I have no choice

Just thought having different sized rotors might look odd.
So is the consensus 160f/140r then? Or can I go 140 both?

When was the last time you seen a mountain bike?
140mm on F&R work fine, but 160mm in front disspatch heat a lots better than 140mm.
I have 160mm on the rear and it just way too overkill, my fault as I spec the bike to have 160mm on the rear.

What's the best way to set headset bearing preload on a bike with disc brakes? There is play in the pad on the front brake so it's impossible to tell if there's any play in the headset bearings.

Turn your handlebar 90 degree so the wheel is 90 degrees from the frame, put hand on headset, push bike back and forth (without holding brakes).
Most disc brake have a play in the pads, which is not noticeable when riding, only when pushing the bike backward.

A finger where frame or headset cup meets headset can help too.

Put it in the two o'clock position should hit the spot.

I managed to find OEM Spyres from Ireland
Weren't quite as expensive as these - thanks Farage! - but should be a quicker option than HK and no tax/duty -

I have the same issue with my Shimano BR-CX77. Do you mean out copper slip on the ID of the washer as opposed to its upper/lower surfaces? I'm keen to give this a shot.
-
• #2891
Between the washer and the bolt, a very tiny amount and a very careful tighten each one by one.
-
• #2893
Yes, sometime between washer and calipers.

I dont find 160mm for rear overkill. Kn my bike i find the rear brake very effective and difficult to lock but that is partly the tyres and the panniers sitting over the back wheel with load in them.
-
• #2895
That would make sense, I usually ride front loaded with little to nothing on the rear, even with 48mm tyres it's diffcuilt not to lock it in the wet.

Which compressionless housing pls at a reasonable price.
Thnx -
• #2898
Depends what is reasonable for you... they all seem pretty expensive to me. I got the Jagwire.. around 30 pounds for the cable set

BMX stuff is cheaper.

2 piece designed rotors really worth the extra coin on a road bike?
160/160 would look stupid on a road bike.
