• Take the coil pack and swap it to a different cylinder, reset the code and take it for a drive, if the fault moves with the coil then it's at fault. If this is the same as the 8L S3 engine then there coil packs should be replace with newer items from a golf Gti. The uprated ones are red coils I think.

  • Not sure if it's the same, it's an AUQ engine. There was a coil pack recall before I owned the car, not sure if the previous owner ever took it in. I'll see whether skoda will still honour that...

    Good thinking to swap them around, I'll see if that sorts it. I read somewhere that driving it with a misfire will knacker the cat. Will short distance be a problem?

  • Tbh if it's a slight, moving it won't solve the issue if it's the coil that's failed but it does mean you know exactly what's wrong and how to fix it.
