• Just popped the cover off and looked at the coil packs. The #2 coil appears to be new, at least compared to the others. I'll have to check if it was replaced at the last service (august).

    I'll wait until the engine cools down and then try popping it out and reseating it, but it looks to be in properly. Apart from that, I think I'm out of my depth...

  • Take the coil pack and swap it to a different cylinder, reset the code and take it for a drive, if the fault moves with the coil then it's at fault. If this is the same as the 8L S3 engine then there coil packs should be replace with newer items from a golf Gti. The uprated ones are red coils I think.

  • Swap the coil from cyl 2 to 4 or 1 and vice versa to the plug, if the misfire moves with either the coil or plug you know which it is, if it stays where it is then it is fuel injector/air leak or cyl related such as compression or coked intake allthough later is more likely across all cyls together
