The Rapha Festive 500

Is it me or had the weather this year been particularly challenging/ unhelpful 😑

Thought it was pretty charitable.

At least for the first five days or so.

Yesterday all the leading edges formed an ice shell- from brake levers to shins. Never got above zero.

Nice and sunny.

Inversion weather will now have me climb to 500m for some warmer temperatures.

Only 30% of the ride was above >76rpm - and the part above never got higher than Z2 heart rate zone #pootling

Finished it this morning 510 km and finished the year on 10,500 miles all fixed. Now for finishing that Christmas booze

Managed 380 as I had a couple of unplanned days off due to hangovers and weather. Ah well - views like this make you realise there's more to riding a bike that smashing out loads of miles for an arbitrary cycling challenge...

Without doubt the most boring festive 500 I've ever completed. Didn't want to venture out far because of ice a few days so ended doing laps of Regents. None of my other bigger rides were very interesting and then yesterday I snapped a spoke with 40 miles to go....all in all quite lame really.

I bashed mine out in Oz. Harder than expected as I didn't think about all the little shops being closed over xmas period so getting water for longer rides in 40deg heat proved impossible so went for shorter morning and evening rides and one big 200k+ when the temp dropped low enough I could manage 5hrs or so with just two bottles.

Just like xmas shit in supermarkets, this has been mentioned and requires me to dredge the thread...

Normally try and do this (unofficially) each year. Only two days at home in between two trips so not sure I'll get it done this time. Never know though.
