  • It wasn't that solid to start with as all it took was me tripping over the curtain to rip it out. But your suggestion makes sense.

  • It's not my first Rodeo :)

  • We have some condensation issues in our main bathroom...

    Multiple causes:

    1. Outside wall (1930s house so air gap only?)
    2. Rain shower dispenses lots of water which means lots of steam
    3. Washing machine / condenser tumble dryer in there too

It's double glazed at least but still...

The fan is small and runs off the light ring (I assume... As it turns on with the lights).

    Couple of questions:

    1. Can I upgrade it without making a bigger hole?
    2. Will that really make much of a difference?
    3. If I clean out the one I have, will i see a performance increase?
    4. Is it likely the one I have has adjustable timing and will elongating it actually make a difference?

This is the one I have:

You might find something with a higher flow rate due to better blade design etc. Check flow rates on the fans available. I'm guessing that one is 4"/100mm

Not sure how much they vary from the one you have.

Of course, but minimal gains etc. etc.

Does it stay on after the light is switched off? if not you are limited to it only working when the light is on or rewiring it with permanent power. There should be recommendations for the length of time it stays on and lengthening that time should help reduce warm moist air in the room.

  • Are you keeping the door/window open after showering and when washing/drying?

We have the same issue but it's our own fault as new bathroom but didn't think to run fan off separate switch.

  • I have two windows locked open a cracking.

The door stays closed during the day as one of the cats likes to jump on top of the shower

  • Kill the cat.
    It's the only way.

  • :(

  • It's definitely mine!

  • Don't see the issue, it's not even a cute cat.

  • It looks like a 4" or 6" fan. Replacements are like for like so just get the same size again

You can get different ones for different things. There's ones with timers or manual pull cords. One with a humidity stat on would be helpful if you get lots of moisture.

Our bathroom is always steaming up so we bought a dehumidifyer

  • The cat must go

  • 😭

  • Can I get a humidity stat if it's wired to the light switch?

  • Will that kill the cat?

  • Hahahaha

  • In seriousness, I thought the view on here was humidistat was not a good option.

  • Fan chat: I've got one of those two fan heat recycling jobbers. The humidistat sets it into a high flow mode, as does a boost switch. In retrospect the switch is not really necessary. Best combination would be a timed fused spur switch and humidistat for any boost function.

  • Question:
I have a plasterboard wall I want to hang a picture and a cork board for ALL THE FUCKING BITS OF PAPER THE SCHOOL SEND US. And important things too.

Howeve, the stud spacing isn't optimal. HOW TO FIX PLEASE?
I don't want to drill through the plasterboard and into the living room, is it 12.5 mm depth?
    SHOULD I JUST PAY SOMEONE?

  • Also, my newly painted white kitchen looks trashed already. THANKS 5 YEAROLD.

Is Dulux endurance the best bet here? Can I just wack it all over on top of the existing paint (cheap white)? It needs to be able to resist shit and be wiped clean.

  • Farrow and Ball

  • Really?
    My money gun is empty.

  • Also: I appreciate how scruffy you are, but can you compete with 1 x 5 year old, 1 x 42 year old with multiple bikes, a new born, a buggy, and white board markers?

  • Seconded. Plasterboard fixings will let you put up shelves so a pinboard will be no trouble.

Worth making sure that you're not going to catch any pipes or cables, but aside from that get making some holes.
