See plenty of these still being ridden. I heard somewhere that Giant overbuilt the Cadex somewhat so that people wouldn't be scared by stories of failure and thus lose trust in what was then still a relatively new material for the mass market bicycle industry.
There is also a thread on an Australian cycling forum where a guy drilled holes in the top tube of his Cadex for more aero cable routing and the frame held up fine after.
From what I have read before buying my CFR (name of the Cadex from ~mid-90s) the main potential area for concern is the bond between aluminium lug and carbon tube coming lose.
