Good point. I'm too used to associating off-road functional bikes with 'guards but the sort of places where you can enjoy dry weather can also be short of cafe stops. (Might even be a good place to keep the bear spray.)

Indeed - bears hate bikes because they allow the puny humans to sneak up on them unheard and too quick for the bear to make their escape.
This year in north am. there has been at least one attack with a lucky escape and one fatality for this reason.
