Hey Will, not sure about your compatibility question but I'd say if your 5700 left shifter and RSX100 front mech are both for a double chainset then they should work fine.
I think a better solution though would be to just use a shim in conjunction with your 5700 front mech and 531 frame... I presume the clamp on the 5700 front mech is for 34.9mm or 31.8mm tubing, but your 531 frame likely has a 28.6mm seat tube, if so you can easily find shims online to go from 34.9 or 31.8mm down to 28.6mm. Here's an example of what you need:

Trying to sort myself out a bike whilst at my parents for Xmas.
Does anyone know if a 105 5700 front sti will work with a 90's shimano RX100 front derailleur? I can't use my old 105 front derailleur since it's oversized and won't fit on my 531 frame.
