    It's a washer:

    Which was binding the end-cap to the bearing and the inner face of the freehub:

    As we can see when we look at the other face of the washer:

    And now that the washer is removed everything works.

  • That's an MW079, I dunno if you should be messing with an MW079.

    That's part of an FSA self-extracting crank assembly, not a DT Swiss hub part, so you are correct.

    Shop said that it was in the hub when I gave it to them (mysteriously, as it'd never been built), between the MTB freehub and the 12mm bolt-thru endcap, so they carefully removed it from there and put it in between the new 11 speed road freehub and 10mm bolt-thru endcap.
