I think I'm going to just go with V12s.
I already have some spare bearings and I've found the bushes for under 50p each so they should be fairly easy to keep going for years to come.
Edit: Wish I'd found these bushings last year, sold a set of 10-12 year old V12s for cheap on ebay as I' did the bearings but they still squeaked.
