agreed it's probably not worth the hassle. There's a way to add to the "list all modes" which is s called something like the "EDID information". From memory it's manually editing the list in the registry, which is a complete pain. The other thing is maybe have a look for a new .inf for your monitor from the manufacturer.
@Scilly.Suffolk, Assuming you have Windows? have a look in Control Panel, Display and Adjust Resolution and then Advance Settings. On the Adapter tab there's a List Modes button.
I think you can select a slightly different refresh rate to higher res.
