Any suggestions?
Not as fancy as Campagnolo but I'm using FSA Gossamer / external BB, I didn't have to play around with spacer, perfect chainline on the outer/big ring... Don't remember what BCD. Photo of my bike above, I'm really pleased with it.

Someone else has the carbon seat post mine is the Brompton Extendable but in black.
I see... Not sure I'll go as far as replacing like for like just for the colour...

Look like 110BCD.
A Shimano one should work in theory (the old 5 arm one, Sora, Alfine, etc.).

Why on earth did they go 4 bolts in the new ranges, apart from proprietary considerations which makes them annoying more than anything else?
-
• #2581
Lighter and stiffer, supposely, one less bolt to deal with.
Then in 2018, 3 bolt will be the next best thing, a la Rene Herse.

Rolhoff and disc brakes on a Brompton?
-
• #2584
In what scenario do you need to have disc brake on the Brompton? the steep incline of Waterloo Station?

For. The. Lols.

200mm rotors for the lol's :)
By fuck would that be some seriously sharp braking power though.

Actually thinking about it, how do hydraulic hose deal with the constant folding?
-
• #2588
You haven't seen my Brompton then?

Sweet! How do they work? Completely new fork/rear triangle?
-
• #2590
Neat jig.
-
• #2592
Pretty much yeah. Completely new and custom forks and rear triangle to accommodate wider hubs. Wheels rebuilt with hope pro2 evo hubs and powder coated rims, Hope X2 hydraulic brakes. Ti seat tube and bars from brompification as is the tensioner, blackspire chainring on a sugino 75. The fold is unaffected.

Lovely bike - did you have to modify the chain tensioner or does it work for the sugino's chainline straight out of the box?

Back to stupid crank questions for a second... Any idea whether a 170mm Shimano Ultegra 6703 triple crank would work on a Brompton? It's Hollowtech II and (I believe) 130bcd. Slightly wider q-factor, right?
-
• #2595
Why do you want to change the crank?
-
• #2596
This.
It's the most flexy bike I have owned, the chainset is the least of your concern.
-
• #2597
'cos it seems like a fun thing to do and I spotted one for cheap :)
-
• #2598
tbf i'll be doing the same when I get one
logic >>>>

• #2599
Yeah, fuck logic - I mean, it's a Brompton. But the standard chainset looks a bit shit and wimpy, and I'd rather not have square taper on anything if I can avoid it. Also, it seems like one of the relatively 'standard' parts that can be changed for something off the shelf.
I initially spotted a couple of Bromptons with carbon cranks and thought that seemed fun, then got even keener on the idea when I spotted the cheap Fulcrum cranks on Merlin, but then realised stupid BCD meant that was a bad idea, but the seed of the idea is planted now, so I'm keeping an eye out for cheap fancy cranks...

Vumachrono or GTFO
The chainset on your Brompton is plentiful as it is TBH.
