I know a lot of people have very little time for AA Gill. However, a few years back he reviewed Shelter From The Storm to help raise awareness for homelessness issues, and since then he and his wife came back a few times to cook for the guests. He had a lot more humanity than he let people know about publically.

Very sad news.
Didn't give a fuck about saying what he thought.
Tomorrow I will have 'The Full English' in his honour

He also visited and wrote at length and with great empathy about the Jungle in Calais, the camps in Lampedusa, and Iraq. His article about dealing with his cancer in todays times is brilliant, and very sad. RIP.
