  • good choice, did you get crest rims? I can't remember but I think my hubs have the ABG built in. They did the same with me, supplying steel hub when in stock for free!

  • I'm surprised I haven't seen any talk of 650b Disc Equilibriums, are people doing this? Is there is a reason why not?

  • Yes crest rims.

  • +1 thought it would be a good idea, but decided to 650b my Soma instead and stick to rim brakes.

Not sure how well the stock carbon fork would work, looks pretty narrow.

  • Yeah, fork seems the only likely sticking point. Presumably could fit a straggler fork or similar, but sort of makes 650 pointless with such massive clearances anyway.

  • whats that 650b Halo wheelset you mentioned @edscoble that will take road cassette?

  • what is the widest and longest mudguards available 650b?

  • So which 700c do you reckon I should look at? Only thing I can find is Blumels...

  • I've had my 2015 croix de fer set up with 700c and 650b. 700c x 38mm compass tyres with SKS guards and 650b x 42mm gravel kings with velo orange 52mm 650b zeppelin mudguards shown in pics. You get a bit of toe overlap with 700c set up. Built 650b wheels myself, mavic 419 on novatec hubs.
I've recently been coveting the Mason Bokeh.

  • You probably can get the 48mm Switchback Hill in there, or the new WTB Horizon.

  • Will those tyres set up tubeless as just building some WTB i19 650b frequency tubeless rims with Dynamo hub

  • Switchback Hill is apparenty tubeless compatible, but not sure about Horizon.

  • Horizon is tubeless compatible, supposed to be fairly straightforward to set up.

I would urge caution with Compass tubeless claims, everyone seems to have problems at some point (myself included, after being initially v. impressed with them). I've seen recommendations to use Orange Seal sealant rather than Stans, I have no idea if this makes a difference.

  • The problem stem from the casting being almost too thin for tubeless.

  • Just on prebuilt Halo Vapour wheels, I'm not able to fit an 11sp road cassette on mine (Supa Drive), the freehub body is too short. It will take a 10sp road/mtb cassette. Just mentioning to prevent any surprises.

  • How odd, will check mine again.

  • Found it, mine is Vapour 6 Drive.

  • Ah, and yours takes road 11sp?

  • Yup, Spin Doctor 6 Drive is the full name.

TBF Halo is pretty vague in their description, all they said is Shimano HG, which give the implication that any Shimano HG cassette will work.

  • I thought you worked in a bike shop mate ..

  • Go clean your teeth in front of the computer.

  • Specifically with people trying to run the Extralite versions tubeless, or in general?
