FYI its worth noting that some of the newer bar end/TT shifters don't have a friction mode. I think its 10 speed only but worth checking before pulling the trigger.
If its proving too expensive I'd be inclined to go with triggers and some cheap friction thumbies as a backup (you can grab it from your luggage, bend the clamp, have it on the bar with the old lever in situ and be on the road in a couple of minutes). Plus they weigh sweet fa.

I've seen them for £7-8 before online but can't find them now. Plus you can use the left for the right and vice versa if you're in a jam.
