Thanks everyone! Unfortunately we don't have bike jumbles here. Actually had to Google that. Sounds fun
Think I also have these somewhere? Will they work? 10s Microshift, think it's road specific? Time for a trip down the basement

That doesn't have friction mode, which IMHO a very important choice, especially if your derailleur hanger is bent a bit and the gear go out of sync.
(To answer your question, they work, but not with 10spd MTB derailleur, 9 speed MTB one is recommended).

Ah bummer. My derailleur is 9s.
-
• #131
Still work.
8/9/10 have same cable pull*, I ran an 8 speed derailleur once because my 10 speed one broke.
*new MTB 10spd have different pull, new Tiagra 4700 too).

FYI its worth noting that some of the newer bar end/TT shifters don't have a friction mode. I think its 10 speed only but worth checking before pulling the trigger.
If its proving too expensive I'd be inclined to go with triggers and some cheap friction thumbies as a backup (you can grab it from your luggage, bend the clamp, have it on the bar with the old lever in situ and be on the road in a couple of minutes). Plus they weigh sweet fa.

I've seen them for £7-8 before online but can't find them now. Plus you can use the left for the right and vice versa if you're in a jam.Great thread btw. I'm impressed by the project. Trip looks incredible. Looking forward to the progress.

£7, genuine (budget) shimano friction thumbie.
You can even bodge this onto a clamp or bar end or similar (obviously only as a backup).

How reliable are those cheap thumbshifters?
-
• #135
Surprisingly so, I have used a 3 speed one for an 8 speed drivetrain and they work really well.
The only problem is that because it made almost entirely out of plastic, it cannot be guarantee it will work for a while, nor if it's fixable.

Its only a backup. I had that exact £7 Shimano one on a bike for years and it was fine (admittedly it was my front shifter). Still got it somewhere and last I checked it worked fine.

Racks on racks!
-
• #138
Rack lyfff! Really digging the amount of attachment points you have.
-
• #139
The racks look epic! Why did you go for an Acera rd? Need a new one myself and was wondering that.

Small update: I did a wheelbuilding course yesterday at Rijwielatelier 'de Specialist' which was fun and very enlightening. I managed to lace and true the front wheel, it's a great feeling to have invented the wheel for the first time!
However, when building up the rear I noticed that the Ambrosio rim Bike24 have sent me is in a fact a 32h and not a 36h which was quite disappointing. I'm really pleased with their service overall and shit happens so I'm putting it up for sale and ordered another Ryde Andra 40 instead.. At least I'll have matching rims :-) Theo from the Rijwielatelier had no problems with me returning sometime this week to finish the rear, life goes on
@kjlem Cheers! Chose the Acera mainly because it's cheep and cheerful

Looking pretty badass

My better half LadyLiz wants a turquoise Troll really badly. Build is coming along nicely

What's in the unlabelled bottle? Home brew?
-
• #145
It's a couple years old can brew that I found hidden in the bowels of the big mess. Maybe I'll drink it

It rolls! Setting up discs wasn't as daunting as I thought it would be. Very happy with this even though it's not finished yet couldn't resist to upload a pic.
To do:
- Decide and order a saddle
- Drilling and fitting the mudguards
- Fitting the rear rack
- Fitting the 'Stedlocks' :-) bars
- Acetone stem/seatpost decals
- Decide if I need another stem
Once that's out of the way I'll hopefully post better photos and start working on the bureaucracy I have been trying to avoid
- Decide and order a saddle

Not bad, not bad at all!
Not going to use the third bottle cage option?
-
• #148
Looks brilliant. Are those the curved humpert/ergotec bars?

Bike jumble is whete I got my 8 speed bar end from for £15.
