I was thinking a trailer instead of a rack?

Common problem with the Easton made DA seatposts...

Nice. Hope you didn't get shot!
(Sign reads "firing range / no trespassing" to you non scandis)
I may possibly be joining the old mtb appreciation society myself before long. Did you keep any of the old stuff or just start with the frame?
Cheers, I'm alive. Late reply, the forum is blocked in China it seems.I got the frame and fork for free with original stem and bars. I might use the stem and paint it to match the fork, but need some 1" bars then.
You should do it. Fun to ride and super tight with 1x and clutch. Came in at 10kg.

Mine went without cracks or other signs of damage. It just popped all of a sudden.
I still have 2 other ones (one even NOS) which I don't ride because I don't trust them -
• #111731
That's how it usually goes with alu. No warnings at all, just a sudden BANG.

Two new retro projects on their way:
an early nineties Alpinestars mountainbike (bought here on the forum) and an early eighties Colnago Mexico.

just WOW!! your bike is fukin nice! thats the setup i was going for, 1x with cable disk brakes to keep it on the cheap using stuff i have laying around, idea was to also get some kind of front rack to attach the ortliebs
something thin similar to this:
https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/carriers-racks/black-tor-tec-velocity-alloy-rear-rack/
but for now i have wheel-building problems... old spokes and nipples make the spoke key slip all the time.... cant really true de wheel... probably will need to get new spokes or canniballize some other wheel -
• #111737
Stem doesn't suit it for me angle looks wrong, especially with the differing wheel depths.

Please get them tyres for it.

• #111740
Needs ti stem with pink paint splatters!
-
• #111741
I hope I can find some for a decent price. What a waste, back in the nineties my brother used to be sponsored by Michelin and tyres like these were thrown away every 5 races...

• #111742
Thank you it is good to know, I will watch if a crack arrives...
Cheers
That the thing, you won't know, like the Dahon/Tern bicycle, they crack without warning.

• #111743
Haha, no thanks. ;-) I happen to have a black Syncros like the one on the other photo and I will use that for it.
-
• #111744
At first glance I thought that Syncros one was a ahead stem with quill adaptor. Looks fine, more period correct for the build yes?
-
• #111745
O, you could be right about the Syncros on that one. The Syncros I have is a 1993 quill stem. But I just noticed it's 1 inch (comes from my Colnago Master Alloy mtb) and this probably needs 1 1/8.

Looks awesome

Didn't the original listing say it came with 1 1/4"
Alpinestars often came with 1 1/4".
https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/stems/alpinestars-alloy-quill-stem-w-vertical-cable-routing-160-mm-plus5-deg-black/As it happens I've got a 1989 MS Racing (which is an ancestor of your frame). Although I'm sure that takes a 1" stem/hs. I should dig it out. One of these:
http://fcdn.mtbr.com/attachments/vintage-retro-classic/440491d1237312406-ms-racing-alpinestars-cr-1.jpg but only f&f and repainted. -

thanks for the info. I'll see when the frame arrives. There's a stem included but it looks a bit too steep for me.

Thanks guys for all the love!
Needed a change but will be swapping over to gears and back. Just nice having the options.
As @spotter said don't usually buy the cheaper stuff but dont mind it. Ive got Sram for it.
This is the initial setup:
Pretty cheap bits on there. Stem £5 seapost £10 rear mech £5 bars £10. Don't always go for the high end :)....
