There aren't really any cheap ones - except used.
Those frames were designed for 'long' stems - compared to what modern trail bikes use.
Start with 110mm I reckon.

There's a alu 650b frame in the planetX sale atm for £64 or something. Is it reasonable to end up around the £500 mark or not? These bouncy forks are really expensive and the full build px has around the same frame is £799. Weird maths when you're used to road/track bikes, usually the frame is a bigger part of the final cost. I did build a retro 26" mtb up a year ago for not much money but this one had better be a modern functional thing I think.

Maybe, but what's the point when you could walk out of a shop with a Kona and a warranty for the same money?

I posted this on the Ebay thread as I like the look of them. They're a bit heavy, but @xkittyx has one, and I believe he rates it.

No point, just trying to get my head around things. But I'm defo leaning towards a complete bike though, and might buy it locally due to warranty/service as you say.

Thanks, I saw it and I like the look as well but this bike is going to need a suspension fork.

Or you could buy her an activity day on a hire bike and see if she actually enjoys it. Added bonus that screaming, rowing and hassle not directed at you so much.

Ha, good idea. Have more or less decided to buy her a beginner course in the spring to see whether she likes it or not. They have hire bikes.

Good plan, I introduced my wife to mountain biking last year by sending her down a red route on a fully rigid MTB...
Still together oddly enough.

Dualie- as in rims? If so they don't hold a bead very well, even inflated I can unseat the bead :(

It's aussie slang for bouncy bits at both ends.

Looking for a 29er suspension fork, ideally 100-120mm tapered steerer (min 170mm). Budget £150ish.
I'm seeing RS £300 forks that CRC have for £170 selling used on eBay for £140. New, I'd have to pay at least £220 to get anything decent and all the online shops I can remember don't have much below £300.

Bike 24 are doing a big Rock Shox sale. Not sure if anything there hits your budget.

yeah, i've seen a new Syncros one that looks nice, but could do with some cheapo ones to work out the best length.
